About Suzanne Manser

I am a licensed psychologist with a private practice in Northeast Portland, OR. My strongest specialties are in the treatment of people with eating disorders, body image issues, and anxiety. I also have extensive experience working with people who have depression, bipolar disorder, and relationship difficulties. I work collaboratively to help my patients change their relationships with their thoughts, feelings, and themselves.

I have worn many hats in my 20+ years as a psychologist. In addition to being a therapist in private practice, I've worked in hospitals and specialized clinics. I've also taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels, directed a clinic, sat on boards, and spoken at conferences. The hat I am enjoying most at the moment besides therapist, is writer. My articles pass on the wisdom I'm learning about how to live with more self-acceptance, ease, and meaning. They reflect my own journey on this path. To read more of my articles, go here. I'd also love for you to join me on Instagram: @drsuzannemanser.

My husband and I parent two young, very energetic kids (i.e., I'm perpetually exhausted!). In addition to therapisting and parenting, I write, meditate, and watch TV (Ted Lasso, The Voice, and American Ninja Warrior are faves). I am inspired by Pema Chodron, Lizzo, and Jonathan Van Ness.

My education includes a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Temple University. Here are the specifics:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Psychology summa cum laude, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA. 1993.
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. 2000.
  • Predoctoral Fellow in Psychology, Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA. 1999 – 2000.
  • Postdoctoral Fellow in Psychology: Eating Disorders Specialty, Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA. 2000 – 2001.

My pronouns are she/her/hers.

Acknowledgment of Privilege: I am a thin, White, straight, cisgender, able-bodied woman with access to higher education. I have been given unearned advantages due to these aspects of my identity.
